Rayon
Rayon
Rayon is the popular name for rayon, now usually called the modern name viscose. It is an artificial fiber prepared on the basis of a natural raw material, cellulose, for example, is extracted from wood pulp. Viscose wears as comfortable as cotton and the fabric is softer and more supple and silky feel. To that latter characteristic, the fiber was known as 'rayon'. However, there are significant drawbacks. In the wet state halves the mechanical strength of the fiber and, therefore, should not be rayon by rubbing or brushing to be washed and also not be wrung out. The fiber is also very color sensitive and therefore is no longer used it in pure form. Through breeding, special weaving techniques and, in particular, by mixing et synthetic fibers, such as polyester, one is succeeded over time to improve the properties drastically. Completely wrinkle-free fabrics are where a significant percentage of viscose is processed, however, never.
